Members of The Women’s Fund have selected “Fostering Self-sufficiency” as the 2016 grant focus area.
The grant focus was announced at TWF’s State of the Fund event held at The McConnell Foundation headquarters in Redding on Thursday, May 26. Programs that address women struggling with basic needs to bring stability to families will be considered for 2016 grants. That could mean support with housing, child care, transportation, job skills, diploma completion, mental health support, dental care, personal finances, life skills and other areas.
A request for proposals will be issued in June. Nonprofit organizations and public entities are invited to submit applications to be reviewed by a panel of The Women’s Fund.
The grant focus selection was based on votes by the membership. “Fostering Self-sufficiency” earned 66 percent of the vote. The other choice was “Advancing Economic Opportunities.” That theme was the target area for grants the past two years.
Last year, TWF awarded four grants totaling $40,000. TWF has given $170,000 in grants since 2010 and is poised to award another $45,000 in 2016. Grant awards will be announced at the organization’s annual meeting in October.
